SU Xiangpan:Walking in the Spring Rain

Su Xiangpan’s individual exhibition “Walking in the Spring Rain" opened on July the 15th, 2023. This exhibition exhibits the artist’s oil painting on canvas and installation works, and the exhibition is expected to end on August the 27th. This is Su Xiangpan’s fourth solo exhibition presented at the gallery after "Slow Impulse" in 2014; “A Vague Decision in 2015; "Pickling in the Air" in 2018.

The artist’s self-written poem “Walking in the Spring Rain" was describing what he saw and thought during the walk. Most of the contents of the poem were collision of two opposite things, hoping to highlight the fateful tension of rationality and sensibility in painting and installation, as well as the artistic state of the artist in the past five years. Su Xiangpan creates in the morning and dusk of the four seasons, and walks at the end of the street outside the house. It seems that there are only these two things, which are reluctantly surrounding his world.

The process of Su Xiangpan’s work is difficult and long, from the number of times of creative traces, the stacking of pigments, the creation time, and the different years of the work. Su Xiangpan wants to divide many facts, such as completion and incompleteness, calmness and unrestrainedness, effort and relaxation, clumsiness and cleverness, etc. He regards art as his brother, sometimes familiar and sometimes strange. Fortunately, he knows that the concept of art would not occupy him. Sober and romance of walking are his fate.
